After spending 2 weeks at The Hive studio in Toronto, recording with friend and producer Pete Klassen of Love The Empire...

With over a year of show experience and a whirlwind of emotional tests, Journey to Aspen is ready to take their chance at stepping out of the “local band” category and into the hearts and headphones of a country. Poised to release their new e.p. entitled “It’s Impossible To Look Tough Eating Ice Cream”, Scotty, Jeremy, Johnny, Josh and Eric know that the hard work is just beginning.

After spending 2 weeks at The Hive studio in Toronto, recording with friend and producer Pete Klassen of Love The Empire, the result, J2A feels, will speak for itself. “I feel like we really took a big step forward in our music and our sound, from Lemon-Lime Party time (debut e.p.) to this one” says the band’s singer, Eric. “We have now lost both of our original guitarists, which will automatically and drastically change your sound, but we are all very happy with where things are headed.” It’s Impossible To Look Tough Eating Ice Cream is the band’s first true studio effort boasting influences from pop to hardcore and even some blue grass. Journey to Aspen’s unique brand of pop punk has been winning them fans across Ontario and even a strong internet following from across the border.

Joining J2A for this leg of the journey are Jeremy Bundy and Josh Given. Josh is the newest member of the band, having joined only weeks ago. Jeremy spoke about Josh in saying “Josh is not only a great guitarist, but he’s a perfect fit for our band. He’s serious about music but he has fun doing it, and he’s not afraid to make a fool of himself”. Jeremy or “Bundy” (to his friends) has been playing with the band since fall of 2008 and has brought not only his immense talent but the drive and determination it took to push J2A over the top and get not only this e.p. made but to carry the band through some of the more trying times they have experienced in the last year. “Jeremy was definitely the glue that held us together through the loss of Feek and then again he was the push and determination to get through losing fraser and one of the big reasons we kept moving forward as a band in the face of that.” says Eric who has nothing but praise for his fellow bandmates.

The three original members are Scotty Blake, Eric Conlon and Johnny Henderson. Scotty has been Journey to Aspen’s backbone since day one. A talented drummer (and singer), his playing is often compared to that of his long time idol Travis Barker of Blink 182. Johnny is the other piece of the J2A rhythm section. Johnny always looks to expand himself as a bassist trying new techniques and pushing the envelope in his writing. The one intangible that Johnny brings to the band is his live energy. “Everytime I feel exhausted in the middle of a song and think I should take a break and stand still, I look to my side and Johnny has one foot up on a monitor and he’s got his bass in the air and it always reminds me of how much fun it is to play music for people.” says Conlon.

Journey to Aspen, with their manager Zach Blay and an army of friends and fans, are ready to show a deserving nation how 5 guys from the Niagara region can remind you with every word and note how much fun it is to be alive and to be a part of music.

The heart of Love the Empire is that it brings a positive message of keeping that pursuit of justice in the world alive.

LOVE THE EMPIRE, based in Toronto, is an indie pop/rock act with high energetic performances, and epic sonic soundscapes that shape the music’s overall sound. They take the listener on a journey, from danceable rock songs with catchy melodies that stay with you long after hearing them, to acoustic ballads that make you want to wave your lighters in the air!

The one thing that remains the heart of Love the Empire is that it brings a positive message of loving one another and keeping that pursuit of justice in the world alive. In 2005, while laying in a hospital bed after nearly dying from a car accident, Pete Klassen (the solo artist behind the name) decided to come up with a moniker to put himself under. A name that would fully represent the ideas he hoped to share, “I want the music to be about so much more then me…I want it to be an outlet…a way of seeing and meeting a need.” says Klassen.

Life experience is what shapes great heartfelt and meaningful lyrics, and that’s exactly what Love the Empire brings…Experience! Songs about losing loved ones due to accidents, losing relationships and almost losing one’s own life. And songs that tell tales of coming out on the other side with messages of forgiveness, redemption and grace.

In the summer of 2007 Love the Empire came out with the debut album To Self-Destruct. “My Long Awaited Life”, and “Absent Light” both received radio airplay on CHYR in the Windsor, ON area. Won a battle of the bands with the song “The Absent Light”. The act is now in studios currently recording the new and antcipated album called ACTIONS, with producers & engineers Adam Shirley & Noel Cadastre. In the upcoming year you’ll be hearing a lot more of Love the Empire, so keep your eyes and ears open!
